- The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Suess - The Cat in the Hat is a book where an eccentric stranger (who's a cat!) visits two children, Sally and Sam, who are home alone and having a very dull day. Their mother is out, and when the Cat comes in, he reassures the kids that their mother won't mind him or his tricks! 
- The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Lead - The Story of Ferdinand raises questions about conformity, the ethical treatment of animals, and the value of peace vs. aggression. A peaceful bull lives in a pasture with his mother and other young bulls. All the other bulls like to run and buck, but Ferdinand likes to sit under his favorite tree and smell the flowers. 
- Hansel and Gretel by Jacob Grimm - Hansel and Gretel, are a brother and sister abandoned in a forest, where they fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread, cake, and pastries. 
- The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen - A retelling of the famous fairy tale by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, of the youngest mermaid princess who saves a human prince on their birthday, falls in love with him, yearns for his love and a human soul, and bargains her fish-tail for legs with the Sea Witch, sacrificing her beautiful voice as payment. 
- The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen - The story tells of a plain-looking little bird (the Ugly Duckling) born in a barnyard, who gets teased by his siblings and the other farm animals for being “ugly”. However, as he transforms into a beautiful swan, he learns to accept himself for who he is.
